On average people have 5.4 jeans in their closet. But can you still enjoy having these jeans? A regular jeans takes 9000 ltrs of water for each kilo cotton and 10 kg CO2 emission for making the fabric. Then we don’t even talk about the negative impact of the following dying process.
So we started a project to develop denim with positive impact; changing the negative backside by use of recycled cotton in a transparent process towards a circular eco-system.
In close collaboration with Italdenim we developed a first batch of ReDenim. The combination of ReBlend yarn with Italdenim patented Smart Indigo ™ makes the most sustainable denim for this moment!!
Characteristics ReDenim:
- 70% recycled dutch post consumer cotton waste
- 30% recycled rPET. Research for replacement with 30% Tencel.
- 2-3 times recyclable by mechanical recycling, in this timeframe chemical recycling will become available at production scale.
- Yarn is spun in Spain by Recover. GRS, Oekotex and Global compact certified, The yarn complies to the C2C bronze criteria (based on actual testing).
- Weaving in Italy by ItalDenim. Dyed with Smart Indigo™.

Social Cost & Benefits Analysis
Savings per kilo of the yarn are based ReBlend Social Cost & Benefits Analysis (incl LCA research and Environmental P&L for pricing externalities) .
The SCBA scope is limited to the valuation of environmental impact. It does not extent the positive social impact potential of this type of recycling. Our aim is not to calculate a True Price for ReBlend products. Our aim is to assess the “social value” of the positive environmental impact of using recycled ReBlend products instead of buying standard fabrics and clothing products.
The sustainability profit potential of ReBlend products (with Recover inside) is caused by the shorter value chain of ReBlend compared to standard products; and the implicit prolonged life of the resource used.
The approach is to compare the costs and benefits of Investment in ReBlend production & sales, with the costs and benefits of standard yarn, fabrics and garments sold on the Dutch Market. To do this we need to estimate the average environmental costs of cotton based textiles/garments that are sold on the Dutch market.
The standard SCBA Methodology is used. This means that costs and benefits are expressed in monetary terms based on the open source Environmental P&L methodology and open source available reports and data. Please contact us for questions and more info.
